Sacraments at
St. Martin's
In addition to our daily Mass schedule, the Shrine of St. Martin of Tours is a place to engage in all the sacraments. Our CCD program is primarily for sacraments preparation.
Baptism
Baptisms are celebrated communally or singularly, depending on the number to be baptized. These celebrations take place outside of Mass. A class is given to the parents and godparents in preparation for an infant baptism. Adults wishing to be baptized typically attend RCIA, a weekly, 2-hour class from September through Eastertide.
Confession
By the sacrament of Confession, our souls are purified back to their baptismal state. Confessions are heard each week on Saturday between the hours of 3:00 – 3:45pm.
First Holy Communion
Children aged 7-8 years meet once each week for 1.5 hours from the end of August through the beginning of May. These classes prepare students for their first Confession as well as their first Holy Communion.
Matrimony
Couples who are registered members of the Shrine of St. Martin of Tours may be married at the Shrine. The Pre-Cana Program begins one year prior to the marriage.
Confirmation
Candidates for confirmation, 7th & 8th grade, meet once each week for 1.5 hours from the
end of August through the beginning of May. Students attend a half-day retreat at St. Martin’s, which includes their Sponsors, and a full-day retreat at St. Meinrad Archabbey. In addition to regular homework, students must complete 20 service hours, such as working at a soup kitchen, fundraising for the shrine, and local charities.
Last Rites & Funerals
Funeral Masses and related ceremonies can be arranged by calling the Shrine office.
